Saint Nicholas Day

FAMILY EVENT OUR TIP On Sunday, you can enjoy Saint Nicholas Day, when the trio of Saint Nicholas, angel and devil approaches children to ask them whether they were good. The feast takes places on the 5th of December, but events with this theme take place as early as Sunday. The kids usually recite some rhymes and sing, and the good ones receive some candy. Enjoy the tradition originally, in the popular leisure area of “Žluté lázně”. The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m, with no entrance fee. Find more information on the Facebook Event page. Farmers Markets

FARMER MARKETS On Saturday, you can visit folk craft markets on the “Jiřího z Poděbrad” square. You can buy, for example, fresh dairy products from Czech farmers, smoked meats, or regional pastry. Various hand-made tools for gastronomy are going to be available, too. The markets operate 8 a.m. – 6 p.m, and there is no entrance fee. Address: Náměstí Jiřího z Poděbrad.

Pre-Christmas Film Music Concert

CONCERT On Sunday, the Prague Film Orchestra invites you to their traditional concert of music from Christmas movies and fairy-tales. This year, for the first time, you can also hear some Christmas carols. But, most of all, all guests are looking forward to Alice’s Theme from the movie Alice in Wonderland, a selection of music from the Harry Potter series, and the theme from Skyfall.

Around the World – Prague Travelers Festival

TRAVELERS FESTIVAL OUR TIP On both Saturday and Sunday, you can visit the biggest festival of all travel lovers. You can look forward to photographs from inaccessible places, 70 commented projections, stories of travellers from all around the world, workshops and much more. Find more info on the festival’s web site or Facebook. The event takes place from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., and the entrance fee is 400,- CZK for one day and 600,- CZK for two days. Ice-rink in Galerie Harfa

ICE-SKATING On Saturday, an ice-rink will open on the roof of the Galerie Harfa shopping mall. Ice-skating courses for children with professional coaches are going to be available, too. You can rent ice-skates on site, and the ice-rink will be open to public till the end of March. The public skating takes place 3 – 6:30 p.m. and 7 – 8:30 (night skating). The entrance fee is 50,- CZK, and you can rent ice-skates for 60,- CZK. Address: Galerie Harfa, Českomoravská 2420/15a, Prague 9.

Concert for Organ Completion

CHARITY CONCERT There is a special cultural event taking place on Saturday, in the famous Rudolfinum. The Dvorak Hall will be filled with amazing music within the frame of the Beneficial Christmas concert for the St Vitus Cathedral’s organ. Find more info on the web pages of the Czech Philharmonic. The concert starts at 7 p.m, and the entrance fee varies from 400,- to 1.200,- CZK. Tickets can be purchased online and the proceeds are to be allocated to the organ completion fund. Christmas Markets

CHRISTMAS MARKETS OUR TIP Of course, the two biggest Christmas markets in Prague are going to be full of the advent atmosphere this weekend, too. Visit the markets in the style of a typical folk Czech Christmas on Wenceslas Square, or the Old Town Square where nature and modern life combine. Both markets are open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m, and there is no entrance fee.
