Christmas Tree Festive Lighting Up

FAMILY EVENT OUR TIP On Saturday, take your family to see the traditional lighting up of a Christmas tree in the Old Town Square. This year, the centre of Prague is decorated with a 31-metre-tall and 70-year-old spruce. This time, not a single festive lighting up is taking place, but there will be a light animation with music every hour between 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Obviously, there is no entrance fee.

Christmas Carols at the Old Town Hall

FAMILY EVENT You can also get into the Christmas mood by listening to Christmas Carols played from the Old Town Hall. From this Saturday until the 1st of January, horn-blowers from Prague City Tourism will perform a series of Carols after the apostles show at the Astronomical Clock, between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. There is no entrance fee. Christmas Markets on the Wenceslas Square

CHRISTMAS MARKETS OUR TIP On Saturday, the traditional Christmas markets are due to open on Wenceslas Square. You can look forward to the atmosphere of a typical folk Czech Christmas, with many Czech traditions, folklore group performances and, of course, a wide range of jolly products and refreshments. Christmas Carol singing, mistletoe, Christmas candles and other decorations, and all flavours of Christmas – this will help you tune in to the proper Christmas mood. The markets are open every day from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m, and there is no entrance fee.

CHRISTMAS MARKETS OUR TIP Also on the Old Town Square, the traditional markets are starting on Saturday. This year, the celebrations of Christmas time will follow the theme of tradition and love of nature, but with a touch of the 21st century thanks to modern technology. Like every year, the countless stalls with Christmas goods and refreshment will be accompanied by a rich programme of entertainment on a big stage. You can enjoy folklore groups, children’s choirs, and other musical concerts. The markets are open daily 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. There is no entrance fee.

Elton John in Prague O2 Arena

CONCERT Christmas Carols aren’t the only music that will resonate through Prague this weekend. On Saturday, yet another big star will perform at Prague’s O2 Arena. All fans of Elton John should cheer up, because this great musician is performing on Saturday. During his concert, he will play the biggest hits of his incredibly long career. Traditional Pig-cutting Feast

GASTRONOMICAL EVENT On both Saturday and Sunday, you can experience the atmosphere of a traditional pig-cutting feast in the Art&Food Zone in Troja. Within the frame of yet another Christmas market, you can taste some pig barbecue and other pig-cutting delicacies. The Art&Food Zone is a unique concept of exhibition and sales spaces in the yard of the former Troja brewery. In this area of around 2000 square meters, you can enjoy a combination of culture, art, and gastronomy. The event takes place 10 a.m. – 6 p.m, with no entrance fee. Christmas Cribs Exhibition

FAMILY EVENT From this Sunday until the 4th of February, you can visit an amazing Christmas cribs exhibition at the Charles Bridge Museum. You can see the most typical Czech traditional Nativity scenes (“betlémy”) and how they are created. Admire, for example, a Christmas Crib made of straw, or wooden and ceramic cribs.
