According to the weather forecast, this Saturday is going to be cloudy with mild rain and slack wind. On Sunday, there should be no rain, but we will see no sun, either. The temperatures will vary between 9°C (48°F) and 13°C (55°F) during the day and may drop to 6°C (43°F) after dark. On Friday, which is a national holiday in the Czech Republic, the weather will be similar to Saturday, but without rain.

Long Live the Republic!

MUSIC FESTIVAL OUR TIP This weekend is prolonged by a national holiday. On Friday, we celebrate The Independent Czechoslovak State Day. On this day, people meet up on Wenceslas Square to celebrate the 98th anniversary of the creation of Czechoslovakia. The open air festival, called “Long live the republic!” (“Ať žije republika!” in Czech) will host the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, playing some of the most significant works of famous Czech composers Bedřich Smetana and Antonín Dvořák. The event starts at 3 p.m. and will last for about 2 hours, and there is no entrance fee. Address: Václavské náměstí – Můstek.

There will be also a similar event at the Old Town Square, starting at 6:30 p.m. with speeches and followed by music performances, in the Czech language only.

Designblok 2016

DESIGN AND FASHION FESTIVAL  OUR TIP Prague design and fashion week called “Designblok” is finally here. It officially started on Thursday October 27 and will last until Sunday October 31. You can see lots of exhibitions and shows from famous Czech designers. Tickets can be purchased at the entrance for 350,- CZK (children below 15 have free entrance). Open Days of Czech Institutions

OPEN DAYS OUR TIP Also within the frame of the Independent Czechoslovak State Day celebrations, some of the most significant Czech institutions organize open days. So on Friday, for example, you can visit the Czech Senate, Chamber of Deputies, Prague Municipal House, the Mayor’s residence, or the Prime Minister’s residence (Kramář Villa) and see their premises, even those not usually open to public. There are no entrance fees.

  • The Senate (Valdštejnské nám. 17/4 , Prague 1) open day takes place 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • The Chamber of Deputies (Sněmovní 4, Prague 1) open day takes place 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • The Municipal House (Náměstí republiky 5, Prague 1) open day takes place 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • The Mayor´s residence (Žatecká, Prague 1) open day takes place 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.
  • The Kramář Villa (Gogolova 212/1, Prague 1) open day takes place 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Bloody Sexy Halloween VIII

Soup and Goulash

FOOD FESTIVAL On Saturday, all lovers of soup and goulash should visit the Vltava river embankment, where a food festival focused on these kind of dishes will be taking place. You will get the chance to taste soups of all kinds from all around the world (of course, including the traditional Czech ones) and also a whole host of different goulash dishes. The event takes place 10 a.m. – 7 p.m., and there is no entrance fee. Zombie Night Run 2016

SPORT EVENT On Saturday, a rather original event for sport lovers will take place on Vítkov hill. Here you can run frantically through the city centre, escaping from hordes of bloodthirsty zombies. There is a KIDS RUN with a 1,5 kilometres long track, and every child gets a medal. Later in the afternoon, the ZOMBIE NIGHT RUN, which is a real competition for adults, starts. You can also partake in the ZOMBIE DRESS run, which is just for fun and suitable for whole families. Registration opens at 2 p.m., the kids’ run starts at 4 p.m., the Zombie night run starts at 5:30 p.m., and the Zombie dress starts at 6:30. The starting fee is 500,- CZK (family fee is 600,- CZK). All Souls’ Day

FAMILY EVENT On Saturday, take your family to the Libeň Mansion House to mark the All Souls’ Day, the day of remembering our departed. This Czech traditional holiday is an analogy to Halloween, but does not include masks or “trick-or-treating”. In the former castle in Libeň (still called castle -“Libeňský zámek” – in Czech), there will be creative workshops for children, guided tours with fairy-tale characters, and celebratory themed decorations and atmosphere. The event takes place 5 p.m. – 9 p.m., and there is no entrance fee. Address: Zenklova 1/35, Prague 8

Yelloween

FAMILY EVENT Even though the Czechs celebrate All Souls’ Day, Halloween is getting more and more popular every year, especially in Prague. On Saturday, you can enjoy the celebrations in the popular leisure area of “Žluté lázně”. The name means “Yellow Spa” in English, thus the event is called “Yelloween”. Wear costumes, meet bogeymen, and enjoy a rich programme of events including a haunted house, spider cave, vampire workshop, pumpkin carving, musical and theatre performances, and much more. The event takes place 12 a.m. – 7 p.m., and there is no entrance fee. Address: Žluté lázně, Podolské nábřeží, Prague 4.

Halloween for Kids

FAMILY EVENT You can also enjoy Halloween with your family on Saturday, in Hard Rock Cafe. The theme of the spooky Halloween party, prepared specifically for children, is that of popular Pokémon. Your children can enjoy face painting, pumpkin painting, or win a best costume contest for attractive prizes. It is necessary to make a booking in advance (e-mail address: prague_salescoordinator3@hardrock.com). The event takes place 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., with no entrance fee. All Ride Moto Show

EXHIBITION On both Saturday and Sunday, you can attend an opening of a very original exhibition. In Prague quarter Holešovice, a team of creative people revitalized an industrial building, turning it into a multipurpose Factory (“Továrna”) for art ateliers and an exhibition area. This weekend, the Factory is opening with the 1st year of “custom maniacs” meeting – All Ride Moto Show 2016. You can look forward to 50 original custom made motorcycles and also a photo and painting exhibition. Within the frame of the programme, there will also be two CustomCultureClub bars, Eddie’s barber shop, Inkoust tattoo, and much more. Transmission Prague 2016

MUSIC FESTIVAL On both Saturday and Sunday, all lovers of modern dance music meet up at this year’s Transmission. The unique dance event offers a combination of electronic dance music, special effects, high-quality equipment, live dance performances, and special scenography. Nordic Walking Divoká Šárka

SPORT EVENT On Sunday, visit the nature reserve “Divoká Šárka” to partake in a joint sport activity for all age groups. Enjoy the increasingly popular Nordic walking in this very beautiful Prague location. The track, on which qualified instructors will accompany you, is 7 kilometres long and there is going to be a traditional raffle at the end. It is possible to borrow walking sticks on the spot.
