When it comes to getting around Prague quickly and conveniently, Uber is one of the top choices for both locals and tourists. With competitive pricing, reliable service, and easy app-based booking, Uber offers a safe and efficient alternative to traditional taxis in the Czech capital.
Uber operates in Prague for more than 10 years and is fully legal. The service is widely available across the city, including the city center, the airport, and most tourist hotspots. Unlike in some other European cities where regulations are strict, Prague allows Uber to function similarly to traditional ride-hailing services.

On top of that, Uber Airport is the only official taxi service at the Prague Airport.
In case you are unfamiliar with Uber’s services, it’s an extremely easy way to travel, available almost in every country in the world. You can simply download the app onto your Android or iPhone, enter your Credit/Debit Card details (no need for cash) and book your own driver. It’s perfect for short city distances up to about 20 kilometers. Also, most of the drivers in Prague understand at least basic English, so you don’t need to worry about any language barrier.
Honest Tip: Better Than Uber
To get from the Prague Airport to the city center we recommend using Welcome Pickups service which offers far better quality and reliability than Uber. For the same price as a regular taxi or Uber, you will get a private driver with excellent English and knowledge of Prague. The driver will be also waiting for you with the welcome sign at the terminal exit.
The private ride from the airport to your hotel will cost you €33 which is about the same price you would pay for a regular taxi. All benefits over a regular taxi or even Uber are in the table below.

Uber Rush Hours (Surge Pricing)
As in every other city where Uber operates, also in Prague, there are so-called rush hours when the demand is high and Uber pricing is increasing. It usually by 1.5 to 2.5 times of the regular price. So if you are paying 10 CZK per kilometer and 3 CZK per minute as standard price and surge 2x applies you will be paying 20 CZK per kilometer and 6 CZK per minute.
You will always be notified about the increased price upfront (before you order the ride). The notification looks like this

Most typical rush hours are during these times:
- Mornings from 7 AM to 9 AM during the working days (when everyone is going to work).
- Late evenings and early mornings on Fridays and Saturdays (when everyone is going to/from the pub).
- Any time if it's raining or the weather is bad.
Uber Services in Prague
In Prague, you can choose between UberX, Uber Comfort, and Uber Black. Recently, three new services have been introduced: Uber Pet, UberXL, and Uber Airport.
UberX is the basic option, offering rides with a variety of cars and drivers. There's no need to worry—it's reliable, and most locals use UberX regularly. Uber Pet is similar to UberX, but it allows you to travel with your pet(s).
UberXL typically features a 3-row MPV that can accommodate up to 6 passengers, making it ideal for groups. Just keep in mind that luggage space may be limited.
With UberBlack you will get a professional driver with a luxury car, typically a black Skoda Super or Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

Uber Comfort is somewhere in between these two. For costs approximately 30% higher than UberX, you will get a more comfortable car (Skoda Octavia, Volkswagen Passat, Ford Mondeo) which is brand new (or almost new). Also, the drivers of Uber Comfort have higher ratings and know Prague’s routes much better.
Uber Airport: An Official Airport Taxi Service
Uber Airport is the official taxi service provider at Prague Airport, meaning the drivers are conveniently lined up right in front of the terminals. To book a car, you can use the airport’s self-service kiosk, visit the service counter, or simply use your Uber app.

Uber Airport vehicles are typically mid-luxury sedans with plenty of space for both passengers and luggage. You’ll most commonly ride in a Toyota Camry, Škoda Superb, Škoda Kodiaq, or Toyota RAV4.
The main advantage of using Uber Airport is minimal waiting time—your car is usually ready immediately. With other Uber services, you typically wait 5–10 minutes and must walk to a designated pickup point. In terms of pricing, Uber Airport is comparable to Uber Black.
Getting from Prague city center to the airport is extremely easy. You just request or book an Uber upfront using the mobile application, and type “airport” into the destination field. It should automatically suggest “Vaclav Havel Airport“, the full name of Prague’s airport.
Before you arrive at the airport, just tell the driver which terminal you’ll be at – Terminal 1 is for flights outside the Schengen area and Terminal 2 is for flights within the Schengen area (typically the European Union).
And don’t worry—Uber drivers are available all day and night, so even if your flight is early in the morning you shouldn’t have a problem getting a car. Nevertheless, we definitely recommend booking it upfront.
Conclusion: Using Uber in Prague Makes Sense
Uber is a great way to explore Prague with comfort, safety, and ease—especially if you're not familiar with the local language or taxi systems. Whether you're heading to Prague Castle, catching a show at the National Theatre, or just want a quick ride to your hotel, Uber offers a hassle-free solution for modern travelers.
Don’t worry, it’s totally safe to use Uber in Prague, both UberX, and Uber Black. We personally use Uber cars many times a week and have never encountered any incidents. It's a great alternative to standard taxis which don't have a great reputation in Prague.
