Praha 1 has introduced a new traffic restriction banning electric scooters in two key streets of the district. Signs prohibiting entry for e-scooters are now placed at both ends of Nerudova Street and at Ujezd.
Safety Concerns in Historic Streets
The district became the first in Prague to implement such a measure, responding to frequent complaints from residents and visitors as well as repeated accidents involving scooter riders and pedestrians. Nerudova, a popular tourist route leading to Prague Castle, and Ujezd, a busy gateway to Petrin Hill and Mala Strana, were singled out as high-risk zones.

The official unveiling of the signs took place on August 26, 2025. Prague 1 has also announced it is preparing similar restrictions in other parts of its territory.
Legal Backing and Enforcement
The bans were approved by both the police and Prague’s transport department, making them fully enforceable. Municipal police and city wardens can now fine offenders and even confiscate their scooters if they ignore the restriction. Exemptions apply only to holders of special district permits and delivery vehicles.
With Nerudova and Ujezd being among the busiest pedestrian areas in the historic centre, the new restrictions are expected to make walking safer for both locals and tourists. Prague 1’s move may pave the way for other districts to regulate e-scooters in sensitive zones across the capital.
