Prague’s Nové Butovice district is set to welcome a record-breaking landmark. City councillors have approved a zoning plan change that clears the way for Top Tower, a skyscraper reaching 135 meters, making it the tallest building in the country.

A Shipwreck in the Sky

The striking design, created by architect Tomas Cisar and artist David Cerny, features a 125-meter tower crowned with a 10-meter-high sculptural installation resembling a shipwreck. The unusual silhouette is expected to transform the skyline of western Prague.

The project will add 250 rental apartments, along with shops, offices, and even a cultural and experience center. Top Tower aims to become a multifunctional hub for both residents and visitors.

Developer Contributions to the City

The developer, Trigema, led by billionaire Marcel Soural, will provide around 75.7 million CZK in contributions to Prague 13 and the city council. The package includes both direct funding and improvements to public space:

  • revitalization of a parking area and underpass below Bucharova Street
  • construction of two elevators connecting to the pedestrian zone
  • a new pedestrian crossing
  • redevelopment of the area in front of Poliklinika Lípa

Mixed Reactions

While the project has now received the green light, it has faced criticism in the past from local opposition and some residents of Prague 13. Concerns included the building’s scale and its impact on the surrounding neighborhood.

With approval secured, Top Tower is on track to redefine the Prague skyline. Once completed, it will not only claim the title of the tallest building in Czechia but also stand as one of the capital’s most distinctive architectural landmarks.
