Summer at Prague Zoo is packed with unique experiences for animal lovers and families. If you’re looking for something fun, educational, and a little bit wild, mark your calendar for two special events: Great Ape Week (July 14–18) and the Insect Eater Weekend (July 19–20).

Great Ape Week: July 14–18, 2025

Ever wondered what it’s like to meet our closest animal relatives? From Monday to Friday, Prague Zoo is hosting a special program all about great apes—gorillas, orangutans, and more. Head to the Dja Reserve for info stands and fun games where you can learn how apes communicate, what threatens them in the wild, and how we can help protect them.

Daily Program Highlights:

  • 10:00–16:00: Learn about great apes at info and game stations in the Dja Reserve.
  • 11:00, 12:00, 13:00, 14:00: Guided gorilla encounters (Dja Reserve).
  • 11:00, 12:00, 13:00, 14:00: Guided orangutan encounters (Indonesian Jungle outdoor exhibit).

Whether you’re a kid or just a curious adult, you’ll walk away with a new appreciation for these amazing animals!

Insect Eater Weekend: July 19–20, 2025

Ready for something a bit more adventurous? The popular Insect Eater Weekend is back! On Saturday and Sunday, you can sample edible insects like crickets with garlic, grasshoppers in banana batter, and even sweet treats made with mealworms. If you’re not quite ready to munch on bugs yourself, you can watch anteaters, meerkats, aardvarks, and ibis birds enjoy their insect meals during special feedings.

What’s on the menu?

  • Indian-style mealworms with couscous
  • Crickets with garlic
  • Sweet grasshoppers in banana batter with pancakes and chocolate
  • Mealworm with apples and caramel
  • Mixed insect skewers with veggies

Where: Tasting and demos at the Education Center terrace, 10:00–16:00.

Special animal feedings:

Check out the zoo’s app for a full feeding schedule, or catch highlights like aardvark feeding at 10:30 in the African House, meerkats at 10:45, and anteaters at 14:00.

There’s also a chance to see farm-raised insects, watch how insect dishes are prepared, and let the kids join in fun competitions.

July at Prague Zoo is the perfect time to learn, taste, and explore. Whether you’re fascinated by great apes or curious about edible insects, these events promise something for everyone. All activities are included in your regular zoo admission, so bring the whole family and make some wild summer memories!
