Good news for everyone who’s missed Kasarna Karlin! This popular Prague hangout—and honestly, one of our absolute favourite places in the city—is finally reopening after being closed for a whole year. Starting Tuesday, May 27, you can head over for outdoor drinks, snacks, and events in the courtyard. For now, things are running in a temporary setup with tents and outdoor toilets, but the team is hoping to get everything back to normal soon.
The venue itself is in a cool old 19th-century building that used to be for the military. Now it’s owned by the city and is a protected historical site. Even though the state tried to sell it a few times, it’s still standing strong as one of Prague’s best spots to hang out.
Why Was Kasarna Karlin Closed?
Last year, just before the summer season, Kasarna Karlin had to close its doors. It wasn’t because of any safety problems, but because the city’s zoning rules didn’t actually allow for bars, concerts, or cafes in the space—it was technically meant for military use! Luckily, Prague changed the zoning plan in December, so now Kasarna Karlin is allowed to host all the fun stuff again.
What’s Happening on Opening Day?
From May 27, only the outdoor areas will be open. The courtyard will welcome visitors every day from 10 a.m. to midnight, with food and drinks available under tents. Some parts of the old building will still be fenced off, so you’ll need to use the crossing behind the viaduct on Maleho Street to get in, but the entrance stays in the same spot.
Kasarna Karlin’s reopening is great news for anyone who loves Prague’s culture and nightlife. It’s honestly one of our favourite places in the city, and we can’t wait to see it buzzing with life again. Whether you’re into movies, concerts, sports, or just hanging out with friends, this place has something for everyone. Things might be a bit different for now, but the good times are definitely back—and there’s even more to look forward to as Kasarna Karlin gets fully up and running again.
