To think of Halloween in the traditional American sense is to think of kids dressed up as witches and vampires, sweets, trick or treating, jack-o-lanterns and the Michael Jackson Thriller dance routine. Over the past few years, these traditions have also taken root in the Czech Republic. This year, you’ll probably see plenty of shops selling costumes, decorations and Halloween novelties. However, the Czech Republic has its own unique way of celebrating this festival, which just like the American Halloween, finds its origins in Celtic mythology. If you dislike the increasingly tacky and overly-commercialised nature of Halloween these days, the…

It’s a great opportunity to view some of the city’s most iconic and significant landmarks in an entirely…

Today I spent a very pleasant day walking through the grounds of Bohnice Psychiatric Hospital. It’s an amazing place, and you can read more about it here. However, there was another reason why I chose to make the trip to Bohnice today. I had heard rumours that Bohnice is also home to one of Prague’s best kept secrets. The old cemetery is now disused, but it once belonged to the Bohnice Psychiatric Hospital. It was here, that those who met their ends as residents of the hospital found their final resting place. Many of these people ended up committing suicide.…

It may sound like a bit of a strange place to pass an afternoon, but the hospital actually has extensive grounds, which are open to the public 24hrs a day, 365 days…

One of the first pieces of advice that I would give to anyone who is visiting Prague for the first time, is never ever visit a pub or a restaurant that is on Old Town Square. Views of the spectacular Tynska Church, the Astronomical Clock, the Statue of Jan Hus and the simply charming buildings are certainly beautiful, there’s no denying it. However, the sad truth is that most of the pubs and restaurants here, which have outdoor terraces spilling out onto the square itself are massively over-priced (beers will be up to around 3 or 4 times as much…

This discovery got me wondering how many more music videos have been filmed in the city. Of course, Prague has long been a popular destination for shooting films, so it would follow logically that it would also be a popular choice for music videos. It only…
